What is The Grotto?

The Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto is one of Flatrock’s most recognizable landmarks and is the largest grotto east of Montreal. Built into a natural rock face overlooking Flatrock Harbour, the Grotto has been part of the community’s landscape since the 1950s, welcoming residents, visitors, and pilgrims from around the world.

Inspired by the famous Grotto at Lourdes, France, and built through the dedication of local volunteers and tradespeople, the site stands today as a symbol of Flatrock’s history, craftsmanship, and community spirit. As a designated Municipal Heritage Site, it remains an important part of the town’s cultural identity and heritage.
